The Vikings recently signed Tonyan to a one-year deal, and he’s been developing chemistry with rookie Quarterback, J.J McCarthy, at OTAs.
Minnesota has a wide open spot at tight end that is begging for a reliable target to emerge. While starter T.J. Hockenson is expected to miss a large portion of 2024 recovering from a torn ACL, the Vikings tight end room currently consists of Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt, Robert Tonyan, and converted first round Wide Receiver, N’Keal Harry. Tonyan has shown more NFL chops than the rest of the group combined, and is emerging as a name to watch for who could be their starter in 2024.
For Fantasy purposes, even if one emerges from the group, it’s hard to see a path to fantasy relevance in an offense led by Sam Darnold and rookie J.J. McCarthy. Tonyan is someone to keep an eye on this offseason in leagues that utilize tight end premium scoring, and will be worth a late round dart throw if more clarity emerges that he’s atop the depth chart by week 1.
