The New York Giants sign Russell Wilson to a 1-year deal worth up to $21 million.
The New York Giants are taking a patchwork approach to the quarterback position this offseason. After signing Jameis Winston to a 2-year $8 million deal, the Giants have now signed Russell Wilson to a 1-year deal worth up to $21 million.
Based on the contract, the 10-time Pro Bowler will have an edge on Jameis Winston for starter status. The question now becomes, do the Giants select a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft a month from now?
The move indicates that the Giants are unsure of whether or not their preferred quarterback will be available for their number 3 overall pick. The early favorites for the first 2 selections in the draft are quarterbacks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders. While Jaxson Dart has gained 1st round draft buzz, the Giants may be inclined to avoid taking Dart by choosing a player at another position or trading back in the draft. In the meantime, the cork is going back in the bottles being popped from the Jameis Winston signing as it relates to Malik Nabers proverbial trip to the moon.

Pittsburgh’s George Pickens and DK Metcalf are seeing their collective draft stock fall in best ball drafts.
DK Metcalf and George Pickens have seen a dip in their average draft position since March 9th. George Pickens has fallen 5.6 spots from WR-33 to WR-36 in round 6 while DK Metcalf has fallen 4.9 spots from WR-24 to WR-28 at the 4-5 turn.
The drop can be traced to the sign and trade of DK Metcalf to the Steelers. While Metcalf and Pickens can offer diversifying skill sets from each other, the group think taking place is that Metcalf and Pickens styles are too much alike and will siphon from each other in a low passing volume offense.
With Russell Wilson primarily at the helm as the starting quarterback, the Steelers were No.27 in team pass plays per game. While the Steelers await clarity on who their starting quarterback will be this season, the move to acquire DK Metcalf has been met with a coolness in ADP for both Metcalf and Pickens. Drafters would be smart to scoop the discounted ADP prior to the Steelers quarterback issue being solved.

Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II told reporters it’s “probably unlikely” that the team will keep both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, per Brooke Pryor.
During a press conference, Rooney II fielded questions from reporters regarding the Steelers offseason plans and the direction the team is heading. Among the most important decisions to make this offseason is how they’ll handle their quarterback situation. Fields and Wilson each got a chance as Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback this season, with the latter taking over in week seven and holding onto the job the rest of the way. Fields and Wilson have reached the end of their respective contracts, yet neither established themself as a franchise quarterback. They’re both slated to become free agents this summer.
“I think both of them see themselves as starters, and I don’t know that they want to share the same job again next year,” Rooney II said.
This statement from Rooney II might be the most important regarding the quarterback situation. Regardless of how much Fields and Wilson want to stay in Pittsburgh, the reality is that each could compete for a starting job elsewhere. Teams like the Titans, Browns, Giants, and Raiders could be in the market for a starting quarterback if they aren’t satisfied with their options in the 2025 NFL Draft. Whichever quarterback the Steelers part ways with should have multiple options around the league for the next chapter of their career.

Russell Wilson to the Raiders rumors are already flying.
The Las Vegas Raiders have been desperately searching for a winning solution at the QB position since the unceremonious split with all-time franchise leader Derek Carr.
Within moments of the Raiders hiring of Pete Carroll as head coach, the rumors of Russell Wilson to Vegas have begun flying. The inability to draft high enough, sign a free agent, or make a trade has led to the likes of Jimmy Garropolo, Gardner Minshew, Jarret Stidham, and Aidan O’Connell starting at the position. But, there’s a new sheriff in town.
Pete Carroll, Super Bowl champion head coach of the Seattle Seahawks is the new head coach of the Raiders. Before the ink was dry on his 3 year contract, the rumors began that his quarterback in Seattle, Russell Wilson, would be a good fit.
Wilson struggled with injury to begin 2024, but helped the Steelers to a playoff berth after leaving a shattered Denver Broncos team. Wilson played well and led the NFL in multiple passing categories in 2024 with a bare bones offense that focused on the run game and throwing deep. The Raiders, at present, don’t possess the running ability that the Steelers employ, but have a similar receiving corps, with which, Russ could cook.
At Wilson’s age, he would be nothing more than a “bridge” QB while new GM John Spytek searches for a legacy Hall of Famer at the position to guide the Raiders toward the next great football dynasty. For Russ to find success, the Raiders would need to add a legitimate deep-threat at Wide Receiver this offseason.

Steelers starting quarterback Russell Wilson popped up on the team’s injury report, per Steelers Depot. Wilson is reportedly dealing with calf tightness again after missing time earlier in camp with similar issues.
Roughly one week ago, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin officially named veteran Russell Wilson as the team’s starting quarterback. Despite a supposed quarterback competition between Wilson and Justin Fields in training camp, Wilson being named the starter seemed inevitable. Coach Tomlin and other staff members repeatedly said Wilson was in “pole position” from the jump.
With Wilson reappearing on the injury report with the same ailment, the quarterback situation is once again in the air in Pittsburgh. Backup quarterback Justin Fields is surely itching to get back on the field and establish himself as a starter in the NFL. Of course, the Steelers could just be playing it safe with their 35-year-old quarterback, but it’s a situation worth monitoring. If Fields gets the start in the season opener this Sunday, he instantly becomes a top-15 option in fantasy football thanks to his rushing ability.
“Nothing has changed,” said Steelers coach Mike Tomlin when asked for an update on the team’s QB1 battle. The last time Tomlin spoke publicly about this, he claimed veteran Russell Wilson was in “pole position” to be the starter in Pittsburgh.
Since Ben Roethlisberger announced his retirement in 2022, the Pittsburgh Steelers passing offense has been dreadful. No team has thrown fewer touchdowns since, and the likes of Kenny Pickett, Mitchell Trubisky, and Mason Rudolph haven’t come close to replicating Roethlisberger’s production. After a failed experiment of replacing him with a late first-round pick, the Steelers are turning a new page this year.
Russell Wilson was cut by the Broncos earlier this offseason, but thanks to the guaranteed money in his contract, they’re still paying him nearly $40 million this season. Wilson reportedly had multiple suitors but chose to sign with the Steelers on a team-friendly, one-year deal at the league minimum ($1.21 million). Despite the ups and downs of his play in recent years, Wilson figures to be an upgrade in Pittsburgh.
Some believe and continue to push the idea that Justin Fields is worthy of being the starter instead. He’s sometimes impressed in his young career, but has been wildly inconsistent and struggles as a pocket passer. The upside is undoubtedly there for Fields, still just 25 years old, but Tomlin and the Steelers staff seem to view him as a project rather than a starter. The starting job in Pittsburgh belongs to Wilson until he proves otherwise.
