Treylon Burks is from Warren, Arkansas where he was a four-star prospect, the highest rated player in his state and the 16th ranked wide receiver of the entire Draft class. He dominated in the SEC despite being on a pretty bad Arkansas team (2-10 in 2019, 3-7 in 2020, and 9-4 in 2021). Stepping onto the field as a freshman, Burks immediately commanded a 15.7-percent Target Share. He caught 29 passes for 475 receiving yards, the highest yardage total on the team. He also added 356 yards on special teams, returning both punts and kicks. As a sophomore, Burks continued to accumulate targets, receptions, and yardage. Posting an impressive 25-percent Target Share and a 71.8-percent catch rate, Burks had 90 or more receiving yards in six of the nine games he played. He had four games over 100 yards and four games with seven or more receptions.
In 2021, Burks improved in every metric and dominated team receptions and yards. The next closest receiver had 24 receptions and 337 yards, compared to Burks’ 66 receptions and 1,104 yards. Earning 16.7 yards per reception, he accumulated Yards After Catch and was effective catching 50/50 balls. In addition to being a prolific receiver, he had 14 rush attempts for 112 yards and a touchdown.
Burks earned a Combine invite and anticipation grew about his potential testing metrics. Coming in at 6-2 225, he posted an 87th-percentile Speed Score, while recording a below-average Burst Score (30th percentile). His College Dominator and college Target Share were 92nd- and 93rd-percentile, respectively.
Burks was selected in the first round (1.18) of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. As a rookie in 2022, Burks played in 11 games for the Titans. He finished with 33 receptions for 444 receiving yards and just one receiving touchdown. Burks showed flashes of his first-round potential, having three top-24 WR finishes on the season. In 2023 there was hope that Burks would develop his game playing alongside DeAndre Hopkins, but Burks had a spectacularly poor season, being outproduced by Chris Moore and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. The new offensive minded staff in Tennessee will attempt to see if there is any ability in Burks or if he will solidify himself as a first round bust.
