Xavier Worthy’s Breakout Super Bowl Performance & Fantasy Future in 2025

Xavier Worthy was one of the few bright spots for the Chiefs in their tough Super Bowl loss to the Eagles, catching eight passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. His performance, including a 50-yard touchdown and a 34-yard score, showed off his big-play ability and solidified his place as a key part of the Chiefs’ offense. Worthy’s strong finish to his rookie season, with 768 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns, proved he can be a go-to target for Patrick Mahomes moving forward, especially with Travis Kelce not performing at his usual level this season.

Looking ahead to next season, there’s a lot to be excited about for Worthy’s fantasy outlook. His connection with Mahomes is strong, and with Kelce potentially taking a step back, Worthy could see more opportunities. That said, the return of Rashee Rice from injury could shake things up and affect his role in 2025. Still, after finishing strong this year, Worthy is definitely a player to keep an eye on for fantasy gamers looking for a big-play threat in Kansas City.

Xavier Worthy's is set to smash his 2025 draft position.

Chiefs rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy is screaming 2025 breakout and no one seems to notice.

When the Kansas City Chiefs have hit on draft picks at wide receiver in the past, there’s a 2nd half breakout for that player in their rookie year that isn’t earth-shattering, but that player has an “I understand it now” moment post-bye.  That player the develops a level of target consistency and performance over the back half of the season that is often forgotten going into the next year.

Examples:

Tyreek Hill in 2016:  from week 8 on, paced for 112 targets, 80 receptions, 796 yds, and 5 td on a 17 game season.  Pacing for 32 carries, 464 yards, and 5 more touchdowns. Tyreek finished as the WR4 in 2017.

Rashee Rice in 2023:  Rice paced for 148 targets, 114 receptions, 1468 yds, and 9 tds. In his 3 games played to start 2024, he paced for 164 targets, 1632 yards, and 11 TD.

Xavier Worthy finished his rookie season with 98 targets and finished 2024 with 59 catches for 638 yards and 6 receiving touchdowns, adding another 3 rushing touchdowns.  The 5’11 180 lb speedster’s number seem pretty modest, especially considering the performances of peers like Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr, and Ladd McConkey.

Worthy emerged as a reliable option for Patrick Mahomes from weeks 11-17 (didn’t play in week 18) – he paced for 133 targets, 94 receptions, 952 yards, and 7 tds. He added 11 rushes for 67 yards, and 1 score in this period. He was the WR19 during this time period.

Worthy remains almost a forgotten man amongst a deep wide receiver class, despite several key factors pointing to him being an absolute smash in 2025.  He has the draft capital, unbridled speed, and the fantasy ecosystem to easily out-perform his current pick 39 draft position on Underdog, and he could be the one guy from the 2024 class to enter into the upper tier of elite wide receivers if the Chiefs pattern of production with their wide receiver talent continues.

Xavier Worthy Dominant: Bills Likely Regret the Trade

Xavier Worthy’s AFC Championship Dominance: Bills Likely Regret the Trade

Xavier Worthy had a breakout game in the AFC Championship, catching six passes for 85 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs’ 32-29 victory over the Bills. His 11-yard touchdown and several key grabs throughout the game were crucial in sending Kansas City to their third-straight Super Bowl. Worthy likely had a bit of extra motivation, considering the Bills traded away the 28th pick in the 2024 draft, allowing the Chiefs to scoop him up. In a high-pressure game like that, Worthy showed he’s already one of Patrick Mahomes’ most reliable targets, and he’s proving he’s here to stay.

Looking ahead, Worthy’s future looks bright, both for Super Bowl LVII and fantasy football. He’s already proving to be a major asset for Mahomes, and with the Chiefs facing the Eagles, expect Worthy to continue making big plays. With a full season under his belt, he’s set to take another step forward next year. As he builds on his chemistry with Mahomes, Worthy could easily emerge as one of the top fantasy receivers, and the Bills might end up regretting passing on him in the draft.

Xavier Worthy Leads Chiefs' Receivers in Divisional Round Win

Xavier Worthy Leads Chiefs’ Receivers in Divisional Round Win

In the Chiefs’ 23-14 Divisional Round win over the Houston Texans, rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy was the most productive member of the receiving corps, hauling in five passes for 45 yards. While he wasn’t the focal point of the offense, Worthy finished second in receiving behind Travis Kelce and was the only wide receiver to catch a pass. He also made a notable over-the-shoulder grab early in the game, further highlighting his potential.

Looking ahead to the AFC Championship, Worthy is expected to continue playing a key role in Kansas City’s passing game. While he might not be the top target, his steady presence and connection with Patrick Mahomes could make him a valuable option in deeper leagues or DFS formats. His role could expand depending on matchups against the Ravens or Bills, though he remains more of a secondary option in the Chiefs’ offensive scheme.

Xavier Worthy’s Strong Finish Sets Up Big 2025

Xavier Worthy’s Strong Finish Sets Up Big 2025 Fantasy Outlook for Chiefs WR

As the Kansas City Chiefs head into the Wild Card Weekend with a bye after securing the #1 seed in the AFC, rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy is one to watch in the postseason. Worthy finished his regular season with 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns, emerging as a key piece of the Chiefs’ offense, especially down the stretch. He’s been a playmaker since Week 10, averaging 13.9 fantasy points per game, with his production heating up late in the year. Over his last three games, Worthy posted at least 19.6 PPR fantasy points in each contest, and with an extra week of rest thanks to the Chiefs’ bye, he could be primed to make an impact in the divisional round. For fantasy gamers with eyes on the playoffs, Worthy’s role in the offense should only grow, and he could provide some much-needed firepower for Kansas City as they push for another Super Bowl.

Looking ahead to 2025, there’s plenty of optimism for Worthy’s future in both real-life and fantasy football. As his chemistry with Patrick Mahomes continues to develop, Worthy has the potential to take on an even larger role in the Chiefs’ high-powered offense, especially with fellow wide receiver Rashee Rice set to return from injury. If he continues to build on his late-season surge, Worthy could be knocking on the door of a top-20 Dynasty wide receiver ranking by 2025. With both him and Rice potentially at full strength, the Chiefs’ passing game could be even more dynamic, providing a significant boost to Patrick Mahomes’ fantasy value as he looks to lead the Chiefs to more championships.

With the 28th Overall Pick the Kansas Chiefs take Xavier Worthy
10 months ago

The Kansas City Chiefs trade up with the Buffalo Bills to take Xavier Worthy at 28th overall.

They say speed kills in football, and Xavier Worthy from Texas is as fast as they come. The Kansas City Chiefs moved up to get Worthy at 28th overall after a draft night trade with the Buffalo Bills. With an NFL Combine record 4.21 second 40-time, Worthy and his blazing speed will add yet another dynamic to the reigning Super Bowl Champions.

Immediately impactful as a freshman in 2021, Worthy has consistently produced in college at an elite level. Worthy averaged 918 yards, 65.6 catches, and 8.6 TDs over three collegiate years. Besides his speed, Worthy possesses quick twitch ability, good route-running, and excellent ball tracking skills at full speed. His most notable weakness is his frame (165 lbs), affecting his ability to win contested catches and succeed against press coverage.

Ever since losing Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs have lacked the elite speed element that was so instrumental to their success between 2017-2021. Xavier Worthy will bring that explosiveness back by joining the newly signed Hollywood Brown and future Hall of Fame TE, Travis Kelce, as the primary weapons for Patrick Mahomes. Remember that one of Andy Reid’s favorites was DeSean Jackson in his Eagles tenure. Worthy could be a similar boom-bust player, with the potential to bring game-breaking stats to fantasy matchups, especially in best ball.
